Chalk it up to a week of not getting enough rest, overdoing it at the gym, and feeling more stressed than usual, but for the first time in a long while, I woke up the other day with the telltale signs that a cold was upon me.

This attractive sight included a clown-red nose, sneezing more than normal and a general sense of grossness in the pit of my stomach that’s similar to the feeling I get while watching the nightly news. Since I’m someone who rarely gets sick, but gets hit hard when I am, I was prepared for days of misery. Then . . .

Then, while fixating on my misery in bed one early morning while scrolling through my phone, I came across a recipe from called, the Wellness Shot. It was a message if ever there was one! Determined to feel better, I shuffled out of bed and made this 3-ingredient cold killer.

By noon I was feeling better and the next day… back to my usual self. I have absolutely found a new way to prevent colds naturally; this is definitely my new go-to wellness fix the next time I feel a cold coming on. This mixture kicked my cold’s (or bug, or whatever’s) butt before it got out of control.

I had one shot in the morning and another around 5:00 pm that same day. I’m not going to lie and say it tastes as yummy as Keith’s banana mango smoothie, because to be frank, it was as sour as sour can be. Which makes sense . . . it’s mainly lemon. But as the name implies, it’s a “shot,” so do it fast and be done with it. It is well worth it.

The last thing anyone wants to do when they’re not feeling well is to get all Julia Child’s in the kitchen. That’s why this easy-to-make cold remedy is perfect.

Here’s all you need to prevent colds naturally:

– the juice of 1/2 to 1 fresh, organic lemon

– 1-inch piece of ginger, juiced

– Dash of cayenne pepper

Mix it, drink it and go about the day!
