3 Amazing Health Benefits of Simple Lemon Water

lemon water health benefits

Could improving your health really be as simple as squeezing a little fresh lemon into those eight glasses of water you drink daily (or should drink!)? It almost sounds too simple, but drinking lemon water daily is really one simple way you can improve your health greatly. What’s so great about lemon water? Read on to learn why adding a little lemon to each glass of water you drink can be so good for you.

1. Natural Acids in Lemon Water Improve Digestion and Help Unlock Nutrients from Your Food

Many people today suffer from ill digestion due to either naturally low stomach acid levels or taking proton pump inhibitors, like Prilosec or Nexium, daily, which completely shut off stomach acid production. Stomach acid is very important for your health, and if it is low, then the acids in lemon juice can act as supplemental stomach acid!

Even if you don’t drink it all day long, the most important time to drink lemon water is before, during, and after meals. The healthy acids can help unleash nutrients in your food and improve your digestion.

Unlike the unhealthy acids added to sodas that can damage your stomach and even leach calcium from your bones, lemon contains several natural, healthy acids, including malic acid and ascorbic acid. You likely know ascorbic acid by its household name, Vitamin C, and malic acid is present in many other fruits, including apples.

The malic acid in lemon juice also stimulates saliva production, and it is a little known fact that digestion begins in your mouth when saliva begins to break down your food.

2. Lemon Water Can Help Kill Unhealthy Food Bacteria Before It Makes You Ill

Stomach acid also plays another important role in your health, and that is killing any unhealthy bacteria that may be on your food, such as e.coli, before it hits your intestines where it can replicate and make you extremely ill. However, when you eat a meal, the pH level in your stomach actually becomes higher, which means your stomach is less acidic when you eat.

When you accompany your meals with lemon water, you keep your stomach from becoming so basic (meaning non-acidic) when you eat, and this can help your body naturally kill any bacteria that could potentially cause food poisoning before it makes its way to your colon.

3. Lemon Juice is Filled with Healthy Antioxidants and Vitamin C

As mentioned, lemon juice is a great source of vitamin C, which is not only a vitamin, but also an antioxidant. Few people know that lemon juice has as much vitamin C as orange juice! Antioxidants kill those free-radicals in your body that can cause cancer and other diseases and make you age faster.

The malic acid in lemon juice is also very beneficial to your body, and it has been shown to boost energy energy levels and reduce body pain. This acid even acts a slight appetite suppressant, so if you are trying to lose weight, a glass of lemon water before your meal can even help you stick to your goal of eating less.

When choosing the lemon you add to your water, remember that fresh lemons are best. If you do opt for bottled lemon juice in a pinch, make sure you choose one sold in a glass bottle, because the acid in lemon juice can easily break down and those endocrine-disrupting chemicals in plastic that you don’t want to consume.

Start drinking lemon water today, because it is such a simple, affordable way to improve your health!

Can’t Buy Organic Fruits, Vegetables, and Herbs? Follow These Two Tips on How to Eat a Healthy Diet when You Can’t Buy Organic!

can't buy organic tips

As mentioned in the last post, eating healthy doesn’t have to be more expensive than eating unhealthy foods! If you can’t buy organic fruits, vegetables, and herbs due to lack of local availability or a tight budget, then you can still eat plenty of produce and healthy herbs when you follow these tips. Also, learn why it is so important to choose organic herbs and spices and how to grow your own!

1. Choose Conventionally Grown Fruits and Vegetables That Are Naturally Lowest in Pesticides

A diet filled with healthy fruits and vegetables is always better than one without them, even if you can’t buy organic. There are fruits and vegetables that are naturally pest-resistant, so even traditional farmers don’t have to spray them with dozens of pesticides to produce healthy crops.

When you can’t buy organic produce, then these are the items to choose that are typically grown with fewer pesticides than others:

Onions, Pineapple, Asparagus, Mangoes, Frozen Peas, Bananas, Broccoli, Eggplant, Sweet Potatoes, Watermelon, Blueberries, Cauliflower, Tomatoes, *Honeydew, *Cantaloupe, *Lemons, *Grapefruit.

The items with the * by them are typically a little higher in pesticide residues than the others, but as long as you don’t eat the rinds (which harbor the most pesticides), they are still relatively safe. Frozen corn is also relatively low in pesticides, but look for corn that is Non-GMO project-certified when not opting for organic. None of the other items on the list are yet grown GMO in the US!

2. Grow a Windowsill Herb Garden

Organic herbs and spices can be such a great asset to your health, and you may not even realize how important it is to choose organic varieties – the pesticides sprayed on non-organic herbs can destroy some of the medicinal compounds in them that are so great for your health. However, you don’t have to pay extra for those organic herbs and spices when you start your own indoor, windowsill herb garden!

You may not have the land or time to tend to a vegetable garden, but virtually everyone has a windowsill, and that is all you need along with a few affordable supplies to grow your own healthy organic herbs!

And, yes, you can grow them year-round, even if you live in a part of the world with a long, dreary winter. Good herbs to grow indoors include basil, chives (green onions), oregano, thyme, rosemary, and sage.

To begin your project, all you need is a small terracotta pot for each herb you want to grow, a bag of organic soil from your local gardening store (a bag that says “seed starting potting mix” is best; it is lighter than typical garden soil), and a packet of seeds for each herb variety.

Fill each pot with soil, moisten the soil with a little water, then add just a few seeds under the surface of the soil. Each herb has slightly different watering needs, so check out some basic herb watering schedule guidelines here; some like it more moist than others.

Cat owner? Plant your garden on a windowsill in a room where you can keep the door shut and kitty out. If you can’t do that, then plant cat grass in an extra pot and direct kitty to it if she tries to nibble on those herbs!

You can include plenty of healthy, low-pesticide fruits, vegetables, and herbs in your diet, even if you are on a very tight budget when you follow these two tips!

HCG Diet Drops: What Do Those Numbers with Xs After Them Mean?

hcg diet drops Xs

It’s baa-ackk – the HCG diet. Every spring, people try the HCG diet to try to lose a few pounds. We’ll discuss whether or not this is healthy in a later post, but if you are buying HCG drops off the internet then you may wonder what those numbers with the big Xs after them on the ingredient list mean. I was recently asked this by someone after they purchased the drops, and they were surprised by the answer and even felt scammed. Read on to find out what is really in those bottles of liquid HCG drops sold on the internet, so you know what you are paying for.

What is Really in Those HCG Diet Drops?

The good news is that if you are taking HCG drops you bought off the internet, then there is likely nothing in them that will harm your health. What is in them? Homeopathic HCG. If you believe in homeopathic medicine and know those drops are homeopathic, then there is no need to read more. However, if you think you are taking the actual HCG hormone or are not sure what homeopathic really means, then you are in for a big surprise.

Look at the ingredient list on your bottle or package of your HCG drops. Do you see a number that has a big “X” next to it after the word HCG or the words Human Chorionic Gonadotropin? Does it say 12X 60X 30X or any other number followed with an X? If you see a number like that, then you are taking homeopathic HCG, whether the bottle says the word “homeopathic” or not.

If you already know what homeopathic medicine is all about, then now you know what you are taking. If you are unfamiliar with this field of medicine, then here is a short explanation of it and what those numbers with the big X s after them on your HCG drop bottles mean.

What Does 12X 30X 60X Mean in Homeopathic Medicine?

You can read more about homeopathic medicine principals here. However, the concepts are a bit complicated, so we’ll explain it how it relates to those drops you are buying. First, take a look at the number on your bottle. If it says 6X, for example, then that means that that for every one drop of real HCG that was in the main batch of product it was dispensed from, there were a million drops of water in it. So, your product contains 1/1,000,000 HCG.

If it says 60X, then that means that contains less real HCG and not more. The higher the number before the X (or sometimes C) in homeopathic medicine, the more diluted the final product is. When a homeopathic medication is labeled 60X, it means that you would have to administer “two billion doses per second to six billion people for 4 billion years to deliver a single molecule of the original material.”

In layman’s terms, it is very, very, very diluted.

Final Thoughts

If you take homeopathic HCG diet drops, know they are homeopathic, and know what homeopathic means, then great! You are getting the product you knowingly paid for and hopefully you hit your weight loss goals and improve your health.

However, if you bought HCG drops that were not labeled as “homeopathic”, but they just have those 12X 60X 30X numbers after the ingredients on the list and you didn’t know what they meant (like I have heard so many people don’t), then now you know.

Did you get scammed? If your drops were not labeled as homeopathic and you thought you were taking a product with real HCG hormone in it, then it can be easy to see why you would feel scammed. Did the seller break the law? The truth is that there are no laws requiring a homeopathic product to actually have the word “homeopathic” on the label, so technically, no laws were broken when they sold them. However, if you asked the maker directly if the product was homeopathic and they said “no,” or then that would be a case of deceptive advertisement.

New Study Links Cancer to Low Vitamin D Levels: Can Daily Sun Exposure Reduce Your Risk of Skin Cancer?

cancer vitamin D sunshine supplements

Talking about soaking in some good, all-natural sunshine is always controversial due to the never-ending warnings from dermatologists that sunshine=skin cancer. However, the detrimental effects of low vitamin D levels in a nation that has been told to wear sunscreen anytime they are out in the sun are becoming exposed one-by-one. Read on to find out about the new study that reveals that getting enough vitamin D prevents most types of cancer and why taking vitamin D supplements are not as effective as getting some natural sunshine daily.

New Study Shows High Blood Levels of Vitamin D Can Prevent Cancer

Along with all of the detrimental effects of low vitamin D levels already covered in a past post you can read by clicking here, a fresh new study reveals that low blood levels vitamin D in the body are now being linked to all types of cancer, other than skin cancer, which they purposely exclude from the study. They actually found that people with low vitamin D levels experienced all types of cancer 67 percent more than those with high vitamin D levels.

Why did they exclude skin cancer from a the study? The study didn’t find that there wasn’t a link between low vitamin D levels and skin cancer, but they purposely just didn’t evaluate it at all. There could be many reasons, but could it have been because they wanted to avoid the controversy that would result if the study proved that getting sunshine actually prevented many types of skin cancers?

The truth is that while more and more people have been slathering themselves with sunscreen daily to avoid allowing their skin to be exposed to any sun, skin cancer rates have continued to skyrocket in the United States. Your body cannot produce natural Vitamin D when your skin is covered in sunscreen, like it can when your bare skin is exposed to the sun. Is widespread sunscreen use actually causing skin cancer rates to rise as well as all other types of cancer? Something to think about.

Why Vitamin D Supplements Cannot Replace the Sun for Health

Vitamin D supplements have always been advised for people who are suffering the detrimental health consequences of not getting enough sun, but recent studies show that supplemental Vitamin D may not be as helpful as thought and may even cause more health problems.

In fact, many health professionals today advise people to get more natural sunlight for health, but the only group of medical professionals who advise against it are dermatologists.

How Much Sunlight is Safe and Effective for Health Benefits?

You don’t want to begin basking in the sun for hours daily to prevent cancer. In fact, once you develop a tan, your body actually creates less vitamin D than when your untanned skin is exposed to the sun.

Most health professionals advise that 20 to 30 minutes of skin exposure to natural sunlight is safe, unless you burn quickly and need to limit it to just 15 to 20 minutes. The goal is to get just enough natural sun that you don’t tan, and some skin types tan quickly and some more slowly. If you have been covering up head-to-toe in sunscreen for years, then it may take some experimentation to figure out your personal delicate balance.

How Many Meals a Day Are Best for Health and Weight Loss?

How many meals a day for weight loss health

Everyone has heard the saying that “breakfast is the most important meal of the day” at least a time or two (or a thousand times!) in their lives. Many people also believe that eating five to six small meals every day is best for health and weight loss. Are these widespread beliefs true? Read on to take a look at the research behind meal timing and how many meals are best to eat each day for generally healthy adults and people trying to lose weight.

Is Breakfast Really the Most Important Meal of the Day?

Since the bodies of children and adults are vastly different, we are going to focus on adults in this entire post. Breakfast is great for children to ensure that hunger pangs do not get in the way of their concentration in school. But, when it comes to adults, there is no real research that confirms that eating breakfast is all that important if you are not hungry in the morning. If you, as an adult, also feel huger pangs when you skip breakfast that get in the way of performing well at work or performing your other important morning tasks, then by all means, eat a healthy breakfast.

However, if you are not hungry in the morning, don’t feel guilty about skipping this meal, because there is no reason to force yourself to eat when you are not hungry (especially if you are trying to lose weight).

Is Eating Five or Six Meals a Day Better Than Eating Three?

One theory behind eating five meals a day that is mostly false is that it “speeds up your metabolism.” Any time you eat, your metabolism is boosted slightly just to help your body digest and utilize the nutrients in your meals. However, it doesn’t sky-rocket to the point where it will really affect your weight gain or weight loss.

What eating five or six mini-meals a day instead of three larger meals can do for you is keep you from getting so hungry between meals that you make bad food choices at lunch and dinner due to being so ravenous. If eating this way helps you fight cravings, then there is no reason to stop.

However, if you are happy with eating three (or even one or two, which we will get into next) meals a day and this eating schedule doesn’t leave you so ravenous that you overeat during your meals, then switching to five or six mini-meals really won’t benefit you unless you suffer from diabetes or hypoglycemia and need to spread out that food to keep your blood sugar steady.

What is Intermittent Fasting and is It Healthy?

If you are unfamiliar with intermittent fasting, there are several variations, but the most popular version of this eating schedule involves eating just one meal or a meal and a snack within just a six hour window of the day. Most people who follow this eating plan tend to keep their food window during dinner or lunch hours. Some people allow small sources of calories, like creamer in their coffee, outside of this designated “eating window.”

This is one way of eating that does have some good research behind it, and studies show it can help prevent insulin resistance, which can ward off diabetes and metabolic disorders. Intermittent fasting can also reduce inflammation in your body and ward off many types of diseases. This may be due to the ability of your body to focus on repairing itself much more when it is not constantly distracted with the task of digesting food.

Many people limiting their intake to lose weight also find that by eating one large meal a day instead of several smaller ones, they feel more satisfied and are more easily able to stick to their daily caloric goals.

While this may sound strange, think about how a 1600 calorie diet would be split up among five or six meals – every meal would have to be relatively small and may not seem like enough to be satiating. However, by eating the same 1600 calories in just one meal and a large snack, suddenly many more old favorite dishes, like large plates of pasta or even a healthy, yet high calorie hearty portion of nuts or other favorite snacks can be enjoyed with no guilt.

Like all of the other eating schedules, however, it all comes down to what works best for you and makes you feel your best. No one should force themselves to follow an eating schedule for weight loss that doesn’t make them feel good, because at the end of the day, as long as you are eating healthy foods, when you eat them doesn’t really matter!

GMO Salmon FDA Approved: GMO Salmon 101 and How to Keep Frankenfish out of Your Grocery Store

GMO Salmon Facts Health Hazards

If you haven’t heard the news, GMO salmon was FDA approved in November of last year, but it hasn’t yet hit stores in the US. It is produced by a company named AquaBounty, and if you want to keep genetically modified salmon, aka Frankenfish, from coming to a grocery store near you, there are easy ways to help keep this fish from being sold in the US. First, let’s take a look at some GMO salmon facts so you can get caught up if you haven’t yet heard of what they are all about.

What is GMO Salmon and How are GMO Salmon Made?

Here is a quick, simple overview of what GMO salmon is all about: A company called AquaBounty decided to take a healthy, wild salmon and introduce new DNA into them to make them grow faster. Typical wild salmon take about two to three years to reach adulthood. The new DNA they introduced into the fish encourages the salmon to grow faster and reach adulthood in just 18 months or so.

Why is GMO Salmon Bad? 3 Reasons

1. GMO Salmon Could Damage the Delicate Ocean Ecosystem and Even Lead to Extinction of Wild Salmon

One huge reason genetically engineered salmon are bad is due to the potential detrimental effects they could have on the whole ocean ecosystem. That is why environmental agencies are suing the FDA as we speak due to the fact that the FDA never even consulted anyone about how this fish would affect the environment!

While the fish are not currently bred in oceans, but instead in their own little special bodies of water created for them, mistakes happen (and humans are prone to making mistakes). If the GMO salmon entered the ocean, they could breed with wild salmon and/or eat of all the wild salmons’ food. This could lead to wild salmon becoming extinct and create many more problems within the ocean.

2. GMO Salmon Hitting the Supermarkets Would Encourage the Creation of More GMO Animals

It is important to realize that this is the first FDA approved GMO animal. That means that if this fish enters the market, it opens the floodgates for companies to begin trying to modify more and more animals. That would lead to even more potential environmental disasters and even more difficulty avoiding GMO food consumption among people who choose to avoid them.

3. Potential GMO Salmon Health Hazards

Are there proven health hazards of GMO salmon? Not yet, but they have also not been proven to be safe for long-term human consumption. The public has already acted as “guinea pigs” for GMO crops, and no one wants to be the subject of an “experiment” as to whether GMO salmon could have long-term hazardous health consequence when eaten.

What Can You Do to Keep GMO Salmon out of Your Supermarkets?

You don’t have to take time away from your already busy life to stand around with picket signs in protest to prevent GMO salmon from being sold in your country. First, it is important to spread the word that this salmon is out there, so you can help others become informed about GMO salmon and how they are detrimental to society in many ways.

Then, simply email your local supermarkets (email the company headquarters if it is a large chain) and let them know that you will no longer be a customer of theirs if they choose to sell this fish (if introduced to the market).

You can also email your state legislators to voice your concerns. Vermont voters were recently able to pass a state bill requiring all GMO products to be labeled in the state, and this has led to many companies deciding to label GMOs on all products sold in the country (is is just easier for them to do that then to label products sold in one state differently). So even if you live in a small state, realize that your voice can have a huge impact on the state which can lead to impact on the entire country.

2 Dangers of Eating Too Much Protein and How Much is Too Much?

eating too much protein dangers

So many people are today are worried about getting enough protein in their diets, but the truth is that many people, especially Americans, eat too much protein. Learn why overloading on protein can be harmful to your health and how much you should really aim for each day.

1. Too Much Protein Can Cause Kidney Disease and Other Health Problems That Stem from Kidney Strain

Eating too much protein puts a lot of stress on many internal organs, but especially your kidneys. This is because your kidneys are responsible for removing not only nitrogen that is contained in all protein, but also the the urea that is created during protein metabolism from your body. While your kidneys are dealing with this overload, they may not be able to perform their many other important duties as well as they would otherwise.

Just one of these jobs is removing other other toxins in your body, including pesticide residue, medications, and virtually every other toxic substance that enters your body. When your kidneys are forced to put this job on the back-burner as it handles the nitrogen and urea overload, it can create lead to health problems you may not even realize are related to your kidneys.

Along with forcing your kidneys to work harder, eating too much protein can even cause your kidneys to enlarge, similar to how the heart enlarges in sufferers of congestive heart failure and the liver enlarges in liver disease. This can quickly lead to kidney disease and even kidney failure.

2. Too Much Protein Called “as Bad as Cigarette Smoking” by Health Researchers

If the potential kidney damage is not enough to convince you to lower your protein intake if it is high, then the fact that medical studies reveal that too much protein is just as dangerous as smoking cigarettes may. Everyone today knows that cigarette smoking is one of the best ways to end up in a graveyard sooner than they would like to, and researchers discovered that people of middle age (meaning everyone other than children and the elderly) are more likely to develop cancer, diabetes, and die early for unknown reasons when they eat a high-protein diet.

If you think the people who at too much protein must have been body-builders or people on low-carb diets, it may surprise you that the study found that anyone eating just 20 percent of their calorie intake or more from protein were susceptible to these detrimental health effects. Not surprisingly, they found that if the protein came from meat and animal-based products, it increased the health hazards more than plant protein did.

How Much Protein Should You Eat?

Since the above study linked eating 20 percent of your calorie intake as protein to the detrimental side effects, then limiting your protein intake to 10 to 15 percent of your daily calorie intake would be wise. If you feel like you can’t go this low immediately, then begin replacing the meat or other high-protein items in your diet gradually (but don’t take too long!).

HCLF Diet: Raw Vegan HCLF Diet vs Starch-Based HCLF Diet

HCLF Diet HCLF Vegan HCLF raw

There are two current trends in the vegan-eating world, and both keep fat and protein intake minimal while keeping carbs high. The two current most popular HCLF vegan diets include the HCLF raw diet and the HCLF starch-based diet. Read on to find out which is best for your weight-loss goals and lifestyle.

HCLF Raw Vegan: A Great Option in the Summer and If You Love Fruit

The HCLF raw vegan diet involves eating some vegetables, but mostly fruit. That is because most raw vegetables have so few calories that it would be impossible to eat enough to fuel your body without eating a lot of fruit, as well. Eating only fruits and vegetables is healthy, but, when eating a fully raw diet, there can be some challenges.

First, you must eat a lot of food to meet your daily caloric goals, and while that sounds like a major benefit at first, some people simply get tired of feeling like they have to eat fruit all day long to meet their calorie requirements.

However, spring and summer are the perfect seasons to start a HCLF raw vegan diet, because many types of fresh fruit are in season, leading to the ability to eat a more varied diet and eat it more affordably due to produce prices lowering when fruits are in season.

So, if you have always wanted to try a fully raw diet, then now is the perfect time!

HCLF Starch-Based Diet: Easier to Follow in the Winter and Better if You Enjoy Hot Food

Another diet that is currently building popularity is a starch-based HCLF diet. These diets are often based on the teachings of Dr. McDougall and his book The Starch Solution, although he is not the only doctor who thinks that eating a diet mainly of starches is the healthiest way to eat. Many people kick-start their HCLF starch-based diets with the Potato Cleanse to lose more weight quickly, the switch to a more varied high-starch diet after they lose a few pounds.

The benefits of the starch-based HCLF diet over the raw vegan HCLF diet include more affordable food (potatoes and sweet potatoes are very affordable), and the ability to enjoy hot food that you may need to eat to feel like you ate a “real meal.” If you eat higher calorie starches, then you also don’t have to worry quite so much about having to eat all day long to meet your calorie requirements. Don’t think you won’t lose weight though, because potatoes are very filling and you may find yourself actually not eating your full plate of a potato dish just because a small portion filled you up so much.

The truth is that either HCLF diet is very healthy and will likely lead to weight loss and better health. In the end, the one that you enjoy and can afford is the one that you will stick to long-term. But, there is no harm in eating a mixed raw fruit/starch diet, and many people find they can have the best of both worlds when they eat a mixture of raw fruits and veggies and starches, as long as they keep their fat intake low. Do you plan to try one of these HCLF diets soon?

What Are GMOs and Why Are They Bad? GMOs 101 for Beginners

what are gmos why bad

If you are like many people, you have heard the term GMOs and heard they are bad, but may not know exactly what a GMO food really is and exactly why it is considered bad. You can scour the internet and find arguments about the pros and cons of GMOs, but here is a simple guide to what GMO foods are and why they are believed to be bad for our health.

What Are GMOs?

The term GMO can refer to a broad range of things, but when you hear it in the context of food, it is referring to genetically modified crops. The GMO crops specifically under the health radar are those that have been modified in recent years to be resistant to a specific pesticide called glyphosate, which is sold under the brand name Round-Up. They have also been modified to be resistant to insects by the introduction of a protein in them called BT-protein, otherwise known as BT-Toxin.

Why Do Many People Think  GMOs Are Bad?

Since the GMO crops have been made more resistant to glyphosate pesticide, that means farmers can spray a much larger amount of it on crops without worrying about damaging them.

That means that GMO crops are much more likely to have an even greater amount of pesticides on them than already pesticide-covered traditional crops. Glyphosphate has also been linked to cancer. It is classified by the WHO, or World Health Organization, as probably being carcinogenic.

Another reasons GMO crops are considered unhealthy is due to the BT-protein/toxin added to them. This toxin is not just in the seed, but it remains in the crop and is still in the final food when we eat it.

What does BT-toxin do? It punches holes in the intestines of an insect when it takes a bite of the crop. At this point, no one knows if this toxin is damaging humans, but many people believe that this single toxin is the cause of the extreme widespread disease today and especially the recent increase of “leaky gut.” This syndrome can cause food to leak into our bloodstreams and cause all types of physical problems. The toxin has been found to be able to kill human embryo cells.

What Foods Are GMOS?

As of right now, the FDA-approved GMO crops grown in the United States include corn, soybeans, canola, papaya, sugar beets, alfalfa, zucchini, and yellow summer squash. That means if you eat any of these foods or processed foods that contain them as ingredients (corn, high fructose corn syrup, soy, and sugar are in many processed foods), you are most likely consuming a lot of glyphosate and a lot of BT-toxin.

How can you avoid GMOs?

If you want to eat the foods on the above list and packed foods that contain them, then you must choose items that are Certified USDA Organic or Non-GMO Project Verified. Both are large labels you should not be able to miss.

Thankfully, foods outside the above list of GMO crops are not yet grown from GMO seeds in the US (as far as we know). GMO corn is also grown in Spain and Portugal.
