1. Know your source.

Healthy raw milk comes from healthy, grass-fed, happy cows not treated with antibiotics and hormones. The easiest way to find a good, local source of raw milk is to ask someone you know who drinks it where they get theirs. If you don’t have a friend who drinks it, reach out to the online raw community and see if you can find a referral. Still no luck? Ask a local farmer who is selling the milk if you can take a quick tour of their dairy farm. Ask to see the dairy cows and check out their appearance and how they are kept.

2. Drink only very fresh raw milk.

. You want to first ensure that any milk you are purchasing was obtained from the cow the day you purchase it or at the very oldest, the day before. Not more than 3 days should pass between the time the cow is milked and the time you drink your milk. And, of course, store it in your refrigerator (in a covered glass container) on the coolest setting that doesn’t result in freezing.

3. Use your senses and good judgment when consuming it, always.

Got a fresh batch of milk and notice it tastes “funny” and not like the batches you have gotten previously from the same farmer? Toss it. Is your milk only on day two since it was obtained, but tastes or smells different than the first day? Toss it. The human body is amazing and great at giving you signals that something is not healthy for you to eat or drink, so listen to your body’s “danger” signals.

3 Neti Pot Recipes for Stubborn Sinus Infections

If you get frequent sinus infections, or this is your first one, then you should only take antibiotics to treat it as a last resort. Not only do antibiotics kill off many of the good, healthy bacteria your body needs to thrive, but they often don’t even work well for sinus infections.

Preventing Sinus Infections by Using a Basic Neti Pot Solution

Before we get into treatments for your current sinus infection, you need to learn about how to keep them from recurring once your current one goes away. The best way to keep your sinuses healthy year-round is to rinse your nasal passages with a neti pot daily.

When you don’t have a stubborn infection, all you need to put in your neti pot is a mixture of about 1 cup of distilled water, ¼ teaspooon of sea salt, and ¼ teaspoon of baking soda. For optimal comfort, heat the solution up until it is just slightly above room temperature.

Don’t make it too hot, though! After heating your solution, always test it on your wrist, like you would test baby formula before feeding it to a child. It should feel comfortably warm, but not hot.

Neti Pot Recipes for Stubborn Sinus Infections

If you currently have a stubborn sinus infection, then you can super-charge your neti pot solution by adding natural bacteria and virus killers. However, you have to be very careful to never put anything in your pot that has the potential to harm your nasal passages.

Before adding any of the extra bacteria and/or virus killing ingredients into your neti pot solution, start with the basic recipe above. Then, add one of the following ingredients of your choice:

Tea Tree Oil. When using a standard neti pot that holds about two cups of solution, you only want to add just ONE drop of tea tree oil and mix well before using it. Once you find that you can tolerate this drop, you can slowly work up to two drops, and then maybe three. Tea tree oil is very powerful in small quantities, so don’t add to much!

Oregano oil. This is an alternative bacteria-killing essential oil that you can add to your neti pot. Like the tea tree oil, start with just a drop and slowly work up to an extra drop or two, but only if you find that you need it after using the one-drop recipe for at least several days.

Garlic infusion. This recipe can be found here, and be sure to follow the instructions. Always use fresh garlic and remove it from the infusion before rinsing your nasal passages with it. Also, don’t substitute garlic powder, because fresh garlic is not only more powerful, but powder will be difficult to strain out. You don’t want sinuses full of garlic powder!

Use these potent neti pot recipes sparingly and only when battling a bad sinus infection. Once it goes away, switch back to the standard solution. Also, remember to listen to your body when trying any of the recipes. While they work great for some people, if you find a certain ingredient causes discomfort, try another or go back to the standard recipe.
